Meet the Team; Introducing Daniela

In a matter of weeks, Life Kitchens will celebrate its first birthday! To celebrate, over the next few months we'll be giving you a little insight into the team that work so hard behind the scenes to turn your kitchen dreams into reality.

First up, we’re introducing you to one third of our design dream team, Daniela. Originally from Italy, she brings a wealth of experience, personality and culture to our Waterloo showroom, so it's no wonder we're excited to give you a little insight into her story.

So Daniela, tell us a little bit about yourself...

"Well, I come from this little village in the south of Italy where I was surrounded by beautiful beaches and fields - a little different to my current location! I then moved to Milan to study at Politecnico, successfully graduating in Interior and Architectural Design. From here, I took the plunge and moved to London! That was over 11 years' ago now, and I love it!"

You've been in the industry for over a decade now, so you must have seen various trends come and go! Is there any that stand out for you this year?

"2019 has been a great year for creativity! With such a breadth of styles, layouts, textures, and colours to choose from, there's never been a better time to experiment with your design.

Personally, I love pairing dark colours with brass and copper details to achieve a seamlessly contemporary look. On the flip side to this, the Shaker style is absolutely dominating the design market; having the ability to make this as classic or modern as the consumer wants, through a striking colour palette and bolder accessories, is one of the reasons it has become so successful.

Even though Life has only been established for a year, you already have an array of kitchen looks and styles within the showroom. Do you have a favourite?

"Our showroom has such a variety of beautiful looks, but my favourite has to be Draycott. A classic in-frame style combined with a simple, clean slab door; contemporary chic."

"If it was my kitchen, I'd mix Chalk wall units with an island in Slate or Charcoal, Copper Handles and a Calacatta Gold Marble Worksurface!"

What colours are you experimenting with at the moment?

I love mixing Chalk with dark hues like Slate or Charcoal. Utilising a very cool colour palette means I can add warmth to the room through wooden accents or flooring. If I had to design for a tiled floor however, my choice for colour would definitely be warmer; copse green or suede with a splash of veneered wood as an accent door.

What would be your best piece of kitchen design advice?

1) If you're anything like me and constantly on the go, I'd highly recommend a Quooker tap for instant hot water - they simplify the kitchen process and mean you no longer have to find a place for the kettle.

2) Also, if you have the space, i'd encourage working a pantry into your design. This will free up the worksurfaces, providing a space to keep the coffee machine and toaster behind closed doors, as well as additional storage for dry foods too.

As a small independent showroom in Waterloo, why should consumers choose you over a High-street chain?

"I've actually experienced both sides, so I'm in a position to talk from first-hand experience. Sadly, some high-street chains lack personality and empathy - they are heavily money driven, so you may not necessarily get the best kitchen for your space or budget.

Independent retailers are all unique, but share one fantastic trait - we tailor everything around your needs and wants. It becomes personal; a daily relationship which is built on trust and confidence to ensure the customer gets exactly what they have imagined. After all, we're here to bring your kitchen dreams to Life - as cheesy as that sounds!"
